A storm two days ago dumped two feet of snow at our house, and much more than that above 8000 feet. Thanks to the storms of the last month, ski areas in the Sierras now have record amounts of snow up top, but we have relatively little at lake level.
I skinned up Shirley Canyon to the Silverado lift to join Nancy for some turns. Everything is filled in up top, so much that Nancy braved her way down a steep, rocky run called Corkscrew for the first time in forty years of skiing at Squaw.
We came out to Squaw on a hot, sunny day for some more spring skiing. We took a few runs on KT-22, but the snow was so punchy that we spent most of the day up top where the conditions were a little better.
Everything was a little punchy, but we found some good snow off of Headwall on Hog’s Back and North Bowl.
