Bike - Hole-in-the-Ground with TTSA

Ryan, Jim and Rich pause near the top of the first climb.

8/16/06 Wednesday

Well, it was carnage at Hole-in-the-Ground as the TTSA boys attempted a simple after-work ride.

The top of the climb, with Castle Peak behind.

First, Rich stripped his freewheel, so he had to walk/run/coast the last nine miles of the trail.

Rich doesn’t have any gears and Ryan is missing a brake, but it’s all good.

Then, Ryan lost a brake pad, so he only had one brake.

How many TTSA maintenance guys does it take to fix a flat?

Then, Mike got a flat, and then Greg got a flat, and then Vince broke a pedal, and finally Rob got into the act by flipping over some rocks and bending a brake lever.

Everyone with a broken bike … raise your hand!

I forget what Jim did to his bike, but I’m sure it was something.

Bike - The Bench

We went to Reno to get Nancy’s bike (finally!), and went for a ride at Spooner Summit on the TRT. Here she is chugging up the first hill.

8/07/06 Monday

We went down to Reno the next day to (finally!) pick up Nancy’s new bike. We—I—decided to try it out with a ride on the Tahoe Rim Trail, starting from Spooner Summit and riding up to The Bench.

The trail is about 10 miles round-trip, with about 1700’ of climbing. There’s two main climbs—a mile of uphill at the start of the trail, and a long grind to the top. It’s a blast coming back down, with mostly smooth dirt.

Insurance photos, in case her cute little red bike gets stolen.

What a cute little red bike!

Nancy says that she likes her new bike, but it doesn’t make the climbs any easier.

Hike - Anderson Peak

There were a lot of wildflowers along the trail.

The wildflowers were abundant in the the Sugar Bowl area.

8/06/06 Sunday

The last time we hiked the PCT out to Tinker Knob, we missed the Benson Hut next to Anderson Peak, so we decided to make a short (10 mile) hike out to the hut and back.

We made a short visit at the Benson Hut.

The Benson Hut is one of a series of huts built by the Sierra Club on or near the PCT.

The sun came out after a few sprinkles to show Anderson Peak in good light.

The hike started out cloudy and cool, but the sun came out on the way back.
