09/17/10 Friday
Neither of us had been to Yosemite in eons, and we hadn't hiked any of the classic trails, so we decided to have a mini-vacation: a week in Yosemite.
We arrived on a Friday afternoon, thinking that at this time of the year we wouldn’t need camping reservations. Mistake! Every campground in Yosemite was full.
We lucked into a campsite at Junction Campground, just outside the Tioga entrance.
The campground featured a view of 13,061’ Mt. Dana. I have some bad memories of Dana—fifteen years ago I tried to hike and ski Mt. Dana with a couple of buddies in a vicious windstorm, and we nearly got blown off the ridge.
We ended up skiing a couloir on the left skyline about 500’ below the summit.
