Oregon Day 3 - Oregon Coast - Cape Perpetua

Photo

Hiking up the St. Perpetua Trail.

09/10/11 Saturday

On our second day on the coast, we drove up to Yachats and hiked around the Cape Perpetua trails.

The West Shelter.

The St. Perpetua Trail climbs about 700’, culminating in a rock shelter built by the CCC in 1933.

The Devil’s Churn.

We walked down to the water at The Devil’s Churn.

It’s not quite so churning with the tide out.

Just coasting.

We tried to find some tidal pools, but there wasn’t much showing.

The Darlingtonia State Natural Site.

The Darlingtonia State Natural Site is right across the highway from Sutton Creek campground.

Killers on the loose.

It features a bog full of carnivorous flowers, the darlingtonia, or cobra lily.

Somebody beat somebody in cribbage.

We found a cribbage board at the Goodwill in Florence and taught Mom how to play.

It didn’t take her long to start winning.
