If you like moss and ferns, you’ll like the MRT.
Cruising through the Willamette Forest.
One of many single-log bridges.
More moss and ferns.
We rode the McKenzie River Trail last summer, but we couldn't ride the last couple of miles due to darkness. We went back to complete it, starting about halfway down, just below Tamolitch Falls. (If you've never ridden the MRT, be sure to start from the top so you'll ride by the waterfalls and the Blue Pool.)
It rained in Eugene the previous day, so the trail was a little slick, but not muddy until the last few miles. The lower half of the MRT has no technical sections; it’s just a nice cruise through the woods.
My parents drove us up in their motor home, so our shuttle and lunch were taken care of. The weather was perfect—blue skies and ideal temperatures.
We were able to complete the ride, although it was a little anti-climatic. The last two miles are the most boring part of the trail.
