We’re taking two weeks off for a Government Shutdown Tour of the southwest. The national parks, campgrounds, and BLM sites are mostly closed, so we’ll be camping a lot at state campgrounds.
Day 1: drive across Nevada to camp at Cave Lake State Park about 15 miles outside of Ely. We heard from a friend at the Northstar XC races that Ely has some nice bike trails, so we came here to check them out.
It’s already shaping up to be a cold trip. Just after getting the tent up, it starting raining, and then it froze, and then our inflatable mattress sprung a leak, and then my backup sleeping pad also got a leak.
The mattress and pad were both fine last time we used them, but now I’ll be sleeping on the ground for three nights. Ouch.
